The Wildwood Tarot: Wherein Wisdom Resides Published – June 7, 2011
Amazon product synopsis: Based on seasonal rhythms and ancient festivals, The Wildwood Tarot gift set draws inspiration from pre-Celtic mythology and shamanic mysteries. This stunning new tarot card deck introduces us to classic forest archetypes--including the Green Man and Woman, Archer, and Blasted Oak--and explains how to use them as a meditation system, divinatory oracle, or reference. Will Worthington's powerful pagan images connect us with a long-lost world that can help us make sense of our own.
Other reviewers have said this is a remake of the Greenwood Tarot. Since I have not heard of that particular deck, I will say that this deck does not feel like a remake. It is a very nature-based deck, that is for sure. I always feels like a surprise using this deck. It is a re-imagined deck for the 21st Century. Gone is the Rider-Waite-style imagery and instead there are animals, the great forest and almost Pagan pictures. This deck has flow. I am not sure how to explain what that means. But you just connect to it and it makes sense. Sometimes you read a card and pull from it something different than the traditional meaning. And that is okay. That is what you are supposed to do.... flow with the inspiration of the Wildwood.
I would recommend this deck to anyone who likes to collect decks or just appreciates nature in some way. It may been hard for RWS traditionalists to wrap their heads around it, but if they try, they will be greatly surprised at how distinctly awesome this deck truly is.
There is a 160 page book that is stuffed full of the meanings of each card as well as spreads you can attempt. It is a refreshing, interesting deck that will make a great addition to any collection.
You can purchase this deck at Amazon.com. Check it out and let me know what you think.
